5 Overlooked Ways to Keep Your Skin Flawless This Summer

The majority of us can’t help but look forward to summer - what’s not to love? Sun, sea, sand and tans are all things we’re desperate for all year round. Now that we’re nearing the end of the summer season it’s important we do what we can to maintain that beautiful complexion for as long as possible - why shouldn’t our skin look flawless all year round? We’ve pulled together five completely overlooked ways you can achieve fantastic skin...

1. Keep hydrated

Did you know that when you start feeling thirsty it means you’re probably already dehydrated? Remember, you’re not just quenching your thirst when you drink, but you’re rehydrating your skin too. Dehydration can cause dry, dull looking skin and increases the chances of wrinkles and spots. Drinking plenty of water throughout the day will encourage a healthy, glowing complexion, so make sure you’re getting at least 8 glasses a day. Don’t forget, alcohol seriously dehydrates the skin - and we all tend to drink a little more during the summer, right?!

2. Know your skin type

We all have completely different skin types which means each of us should be treating our skin in slightly different ways. Understanding your individual skin type and acting accordingly can ensure your skin remains protected this summer. If you need help discovering your particular skin type and would like advice on how you should be treating it, get in touch with Haute Custom Beauty today and we’ll tailor a beauty ritual to your needs.

3. Cleanse your face, moisturize, repeat

It’s no secret that in the summer you tend to sweat more, so it’s essential you learn how to properly cleanse your face so your pores don’t become clogged. Once you know your skin type, you can be well prepared to take on the sun. We’re all guilty of using the same moisturizer all year round, but your skin regime really should change with the seasons, so ensure you have updated your wash bag to contain weather-appropriate products!

4. Avoid the midday sun

Around midday is when the sun is at its highest in the sky and is often strongest, so as much as you want to be making the most of its warming rays, we’d recommend staying around of it for an hour or two near 12pm. When you do step out of the shade, remember to wear your sunhat - keep your face covered. The reason we tan in the sun is because our skin is fighting to stay protected, so let’s not exhaust our skin by staying under the sun for too long!

5. Sleep and recover

Beauty sleep it not a myth - sleep really does help reduce the chance of getting wrinkles in the face and neck. Whilst we sleep, growth hormones work to repair and rebuild body tissues, increasing cell production and slowing the breakdown of proteins. Proteins are the building blocks needed for cell growth and for repair of damage from UV rays. So, make sure you get a good night’s sleep after a day in the sun - after removing your makeup and cleansing, of course…
